PSHE & RSHE
PSHE
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is our comprehensive curriculum for supporting children's personal development, health, wellbeing and understanding of relationships.
We are required by law to teach Relationships Education and Health Education to all primary-aged pupils. We deliver these statutory subjects within our broader PSHE programme. Where we teach about human reproduction (sex education), we do so in line with the principles and approach of the 2025 Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) statutory guidance, in which sex education itself remains non-statutory (but recommended) in primary schools.
We use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme to deliver out PSHE and RSHE curriculum which covers six key areas of learning:
· Being me in my world
· Celebrating difference
· Dreams and goals
· Healthy me
· Relationships
· Changing me.
It also includes age-appropriate aspects of economic education, preparing children to understand spending, saving and the world of work, and citizenship education including British Values, helping children understand their rights, responsibilities and role in society.
We teach the core British values through our Jigsaw scheme covering:
· Democracy
· The rule of law
· Individual liberty
· Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
Pupils’ learning in PSHE is assessed continuously throughout each Jigsaw lesson, enabling teachers to adapt teaching, provide appropriate support and ensure lessons are paced effectively. At the end of each unit, pupils are assessed against the intended learning outcomes to evaluate their understanding and progress. Assessment records are then passed on to the next class teacher to ensure continuity and support effective transition between year groups.
